This Privacy Policy explains how latlng.io (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our website (https://latlng.io), web clients, iOS/Android apps, API, and related services (the “Service”). The Service provides free real-time GPS visualization for makers and users. Data is streamed via WebSockets, can be shared, and is accessible through a simple RESTful API.

Key point: The mobile apps do not collect any location data from the device. They only display GPS information already sent to the Service. All location/GPS data comes exclusively from hardware (GPS trackers, Arduino devices, or other hardware) that you install and control.

1. Information We Collect

From user hardware (core Service data)
Latitude/longitude, timestamps, and related GPS data that you transmit from your own hardware via the API or supported formats. We process this only when you send it.

From the website

  • Comments: name, email, comment text, IP address, and browser user-agent (for spam detection). An anonymized email hash may be sent to Gravatar.
  • Cookies: optional for comments (name/email/website, 1 year); temporary login-check cookie; login and display-preference cookies (up to 2 weeks if “Remember Me” is selected); post-edit cookie (1 day).
  • Media: if you upload images, avoid embedding EXIF GPS data — visitors can extract it.
  • Registered users (if any): profile information you provide.
  • Password-reset requests include your IP address in the email.
  • Embedded content from other sites may collect data under those sites’ policies.

Technical / usage data
Device type, OS, app/browser version, IP address, and basic usage metrics when you access the website, clients, apps, or API.

We do not sell personal data.

2. How We Use Information

  • Display and stream GPS data you send from your hardware.
  • Enable sharing, API access, and Service operation/improvement.
  • Moderate comments, detect spam, and maintain the website.
  • Respond to support or legal requests.

3. Sharing

We share data only:

  • When you use sharing features (with the people or systems you authorize).
  • With service providers under strict contracts.
  • When required by law or to protect the Service.
  • In a business transfer (with protections).

Visitor comments may be checked by an automated spam service. Embedded third-party content follows those sites’ policies.

4. Retention

GPS data is kept while needed for the features you use or until you request deletion. Website comments and metadata are retained indefinitely (to recognize follow-ups). Profile data for registered users is kept until deleted. Technical logs are kept for a reasonable period then deleted or anonymized.

5. Security & Transfers

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures. Data may be processed outside your country; safeguards are applied where required. No system is 100% secure.

6. Your Rights

You may request access, correction, deletion, or an export of your data (subject to legal obligations). Manage sharing and stop hardware transmissions at any time. Uninstalling apps stops further technical collection by those clients. Contact us to exercise rights. The Service is not directed at children under 13; contact us if you believe we hold a child’s data.

7. Changes

We may update this policy and will post the new version here with a revised date. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
